It won’t come as a surprise to those in the know to learn that garden centre sales data shows that clothing has become one of the top-selling categories. Indeed the Garden Centre Association’s Barometer of Trade report says that clothing sales were 22.63 per cent up in May 2022 as compared with May 2021.
The sector is experiencing more than a pure post-lockdown effect as garden centre visits have risen considerably with mature consumers spending across most departments – including clothing, gifts, homewares, food – in addition to the traditional garden centre offering of plants, seeds and gardening lines. Sales of the latter fell in May.
