H&M files copyright lawsuit against Shein

Shein has been accused of multiple cases of infringing H&M’s copyrighted designs and is also facing similar action from RICO, representing a group of US independent designers.

An H&M spokesperson said in a statement that Shein had “in multiple cases infringed on our designs”. Its lawsuit is backed with photographic evidence.

Meanwhile in its claim RICO represented designers stated: ” This brand has made billions by creating a secretive algorithm that astonishingly determines nascent fashion trends – and by coupling it with a corporate structure, including production and fulfilment schemes, that are perfectly executed to grease the wheels of the algorithm, including its unsavoury and illegal aspects.”

Shein has come under fire many times before yet is seemingly unstoppable, save for the not-inconsiderable competition it now faces from the likes of Temu.  Temu’s current flooding of social media, offers of free delivery, free returns, compensation for any orders arriving beyond its promised date, and giveaway pricing as it builds, is already luring millions of consumers and not just for fashion categories.
