Home Retail Group reports rise in sales and profits


Argos and Homebase owner, Home Retail Group, reports that it
increased its like for like sales at Argos for the 52 weeks to 1st
March 2014 by 3.3 per cent to achieve a £112.3 million profit. The improvement
in performance was credited to growth in sales of tablets, video game systems,
televisions and white goods as well as strong mobile commerce results. Online
sales represented 44 per cent of total sales at Argos with mobile commerce now
accounting for 18 per cent of overall sales. Its check and reserve (click and
collect) service also proved to be very popular with customers. Over at
Homebase like for like sales were up by 5.9 per cent producing a profit of
£18.9 million.
