The recently released Abacus Home Shopping Report shows that sales
in the home shopping sector grew 10.2 per cent, year on year, for 2013, with average order values up 1.8 per
cent from £51.40 to £52.40. The first
quarter of 2013 saw sales on par with
the same period of 2012, however, there were notable rises in April (19 per
cent) and September (20 per cent). The only month showing a sales decline was March (-1.2 per cent) possibly due to wintery
weather conditions. The most potent tool for marketers in 2013 was email
marketing, where almost 2 in 5 spent 30 per cent or more of their budgets. A regular newsletter was selected by 68 per
cent of respondents as the preferred type of message and many anticipate a
budget increase for email marketing this year.
