Hotel Chocolat is testing the re-opening of five of its stores next week to offer a takeaway service. The first, in London’s Borough Market, will be selling hot chocolate, coffee and ice-cream. The business has also restarted production in its factory. 80 staff who had been furloughed have now returned to work in the business with the goal of returning more.
“It will help us to learn how to do things and control safe working”, CEO Angus Thirlwell said. He was quick to say that the business would err on the side of caution when it came to opening the retail areas in its premises. Hotel Chocolat has benefited from growth in its online business and said that it had recruited tens of thousands of new customers in the approach to Easter.
