Howdens posts record year

Joinery specialist Howdens generated £2.3bn sales in 2022 which is 10.8 per cent higher than it achieved in 2021. Pre-tax profits were also up by 4 per cent, reaching over £400 million.

The business had opened 30 new depots in the UK, 20 in France and 5 in Ireland during the year and had acquired a worksurface producer, Sheridan Fabrications, for £25m.

Chief executive Andrew Livingston commented: “Howdens delivered a strong performance in 2022, with good progress on executing our strategic priorities and future market share gains. During the year our teams have been adept at navigating the challenges of high inflation and supply chain disruption while supporting our customers with a market-leading product range, high stock availability, and outstanding customer service.

“Our markets are fragmented which gives us a long-term opportunity for growth, in response, we are continuing to expand our depot network, improve our product range, optimise our manufacturing and supply chain, and develop our digital capabilities.”
