JD Sports has entered into its first franchise agreement with Dubai headquartered GMG, a group which is already active in the sportswear category across the Middle East with 500 stores.
The partnership supports JD’s global growth strategy led by its CEO Regis Schultz. The agreement is for a ten-year term requiring GMG to open c.50 stores primarily in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Egypt where there has been strong growth in the athleisure category.
Schultz commented: “We are very pleased to be delivering this historic deal, the first franchise agreement JD has entered into, in partnership with GMG.
“Through my own career, I have seen first-hand the massive untapped potential for retailers in the Middle East, and I am certain that GMG – with their expansive retail expertise and a local understanding of the customer – are the best partners for us in the region.”
