John Lewis enjoyed its strongest ever sales week in its 150 year history as consumers rushed to take advantage of Black Friday deals in its stores and online. Sales at £179.1 million were 21.9 per cent up on the same week last year with online sales up by 42.2 per cent. The multichannel retailer saw web traffic soar – with smartphones and tablets featuring strongly – and took almost 13,000 orders between 8am-9am on Black Friday itself. The retailer’s ecommerce distribution centre picked, packed and despatched 87 per cent more online orders on Saturday than it did last year.
