An additional 230 stores are set to be opened by Lidl over the course of the next three years. Its UK store sales rose by 8.2 per cent for the 12 weeks to October and the chain believes there is significant scope to grow. With Aldi planning a further 100 stores over the next two years, both are putting the squeeze on the major home-grown chains. It is understood that Walmart has confirmed it will look to float Asda following its failed merger with Sainsbury’s.
