Matalan is entering the online bathrooms sector having acquired Earth Bathrooms and recruited its founder Shane Quigley to head up the new division. The offering is competing head to head with the likes of Victoria Plumb and Bathstore with an offering of bathroom and cloakroom suites, taps and fittings. There are also plans, we understand, to extend the range into home furnishings. Matalan Direct will trade as a separate entity and will be promoted to the retailer’s 12.5 million customers.
