Mike Pitt joins eBay UK

eBay has announced
that Mike Pitt has joined the online marketplace as director of shipping
& logistics, the month its Global Shipping Programme has taken its
millionth order and expanded in to new markets.

Pitt joins from Javelin
Group where he advised leading global
retailers on their omnichannel operations strategies. His twenty year
career also spans Waitrose, where he was Head of Online Operations and third
party logistics company, Gist.His role

is pivotal in providing
convenient, low cost shipping choices. This includes opening up international
trade options through the GSP where up to 10,000 UK sellers a day are taking
advantage of a service designed to make selling internationally, as easy and
low cost as selling domestically. Pitt will also focus on the online
marketplace’s collections through Argos, reducing the cost of deliveries and
making it simper to return items when necessary.

The Global Shipping Programme,
launched last autumn, enables UK sellers to send items to a convenient shipping
centre in the UK managed by Pitney Bowes. The
centre handles everything else required to send the item to the buyer including
managing customs, and international delivery costs or import charges.
Overseas buyers see all domestic and international shipping charges upfront as
a single amount during checkout so there are no unexpected charges to buyers
when their purchase is delivered.

Tanya Lawler: vice president eBay marketplaces in the UK said: ‘There are 25 million businesses and consumers selling on eBay worldwide and we expect to enable $300 billion of global commerce this year alone. Mike’s love of our brand and expertise in omnichannel operations and logistics makes him an important senior addition to the eBay team at a time when we’ve invested in opening up great new opportunities for our sellers to reach buyers worldwide.’
