Mohsin Issa will focus on his role as CEO of EG Group, relinquishing his executive role at Asda. However, he will still participate in a non-executive capacity on the board of the supermarket chain, which he co-owns.
The move leaves Asda chair Lord Rose running the business together with Ron Hattrell, a partner at TDR. The change comes at a time of extreme competitive pressure in the supermarket sector.
