Simon Calver who has held the CEO position at Mothercare for
just under two years has resigned hs position.
The business which had issued a profit warning in January
experienced disappointing sales over the Christmas period with group worldwide
sales dropping by 6.1 per cent in the 12 weeks to January and UK like for like
sales down by 4 per cent. This follows the losses in 2012-13 which amounted to
£21.7 million. Mothercare has been carrying out a restructuring plan which has
seen it solicit offers for Early Learning Centre as well as close underperforming
stores. Calver, of course, is best known for his work at Lovefilm and it is
understood that he had made good progress in the retailers’ push toward
becoming a stronger multichannel business. Mothercare is not seeking an
immediate replacement for Calver.
