An inquiry by MPs has launched to investigate claims that rising competition means that Royal Mail will have difficulty in meeting its obligation to deliver six days a week to every address in the UK for the same price. The business select committee is reviewing whether it is fair that rival operators can cherry-pick profitable routes in large urban conurbations whilst Royal ail remains obliged to provide a full service to all 29 million UK addresses, regardless of how remote they are or how unprofitable it is to service them.
