N Brown Group is to shutter 20 stores which trade as Simply Be and Jacamo, and High & Mighty. It has entered into consultations with around 270 affected staff. The business has made the move citing weak high street footfall as well as the increase in its online demand.
Meanwhile Long Tall Sally has set about informing its customers that it will close all of its stores, other than its London flagship. In its message it said “Like many other retailers, we’ve experienced a dramatic shift from shopping in store to shopping online. This trend, combined with rising property and staff costs, has made it difficult for us to trade profitably. We have explored many possible alternatives to closure but sadly, our physical stores are no longer financially viable, leaving us no option but to close all our global stores by March 2019.”
