Neckermann pre-pack sale angers unions

The long established European mail order business Neckermann is being slated by labour union officials in Belgium and the Netherlands over the bankruptcy of the old business and the re-launch of the brand,  minus its obligations, but with the same team of directors, via a pre-pack arrangement. The BBTK union says that around 180 employees have lost their jobs and is questioning the lawfulness of the arrangement which saw a new website go live within 24 hours of completion of the “deal”.  The German operation of Neckermann was declared insolvent and closed in 2012,  but the Dutch and Belgian arms had continued to trade until last week.
