News roundup–ASA raps No Added Sugar, more

According to GfK Retail and Technology data, UK mail order
sales of apparel exceeded £584 million in 2009. From
September to December there was a steady increase in mail order
apparel sales, with £62.5 million spent in November alone,
as shoppers ordered clothes in time for a pre-Christmas
delivery.

Childrenswear cataloguer No Added Sugar was
chided by the Advertising Standards Authority for showing
“irresponsible” images of children, reports the
Telegraph
. The catalogue featured photos of children with
plastic bags on their heads with the caption “We’re
rubbish”. This is the second direct-selling company to fall
foul of the ASA this week. The Telegraph also reports that Mobility
& Lifestyle
was rapped for promoting its mobility
scooters using images of topless women wearing mini-skirts and
Santa hats.
