News roundup–card-not-present fraud down 19 percent, and more

Figures released by the UK Cards Association (formerly APACS)
show that for the first time card-not-present fraud has shown a
year-on-year decrease-down 19 percent from £328.4 million in
2008 to £266.4 million last year. Reasons for the decrease
include retailers’ use of sophisticated fraud screening detection
tools and the take-up of online fraud prevention schemes
MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by Visa, by both online
retailers and cardholders.

Royal Mail
has formed an arrangement with UK
Mail
, reports the
Times
. The deal sees UK Mail handle the bulk mailing of
packets up to 5kg for Royal Mail to complete final mile
delivery.

Department store chain John Lewis has given
commercial director Andrea O’Donnell responsibility for retail
development in addition to her current remit for multichannel and
online selling.
