Soft furnishings retailer Dunelm says its
website is now its “number-one store by revenue”,
helping to contribute to a 9 percent sales rise in the year to
2nd July. Revenue grew to £538.5 million, up from
£492.8 million last year. Further, average order value
online is £50, twice as much as the average in-store spend.
Chief executive Nick Wharton said in a statement that enhancing
Dunelm’s online offering and extending its multichannel presence
is “an investment priority” in the new financial
year. This will include introducing reserve and collect
functionality and a mobile-optimised website.
Today as it celebrates its 125th year anniversary, Avon
Cosmetics has announced a new general manager for Avon
UK & Republic of Ireland. Scott Schlackman succeeds Anna Segatti,
who has assumed a new role as senior vice president of Avon,
Western Europe, Middle East and Africa. Avon was founded by David
H. McConnell in New York in 1886, selling just five floral
fragrances. Today, the cosmetics and skincare company has a
network of 6.5 million independent Avon representatives, who sell
more than 3.5 billion products a year to 300 million customers in
over 100 countries around the world. It is said that the Avon
catalogue is read by six million women every three weeks in the
UK.
Kingfisher, the DIY specialist, has announced
plans to create more 1,200 jobs across the UK through a store
expansion programme for B&Q and
Screwfix. At Screwfix, for example, Kingfisher
is creating 1,000 jobs and plans to open 40 new stores by the end
of January. By the end of January, Screwfix will have 215
outlets. As part of Kingfisher’s interim results reported today,
Screwfix recorded a 25 percent increase in profits to £17
million for the six months to 30th July. In the previous full
year, profits were £28 million on sales of £479
million.
Amazon has launched a website for customers in
Spain. Speculation is rife that sites for the Netherlands,
Sweden, and India may be next.
St Ives Group, a supplier of print and marketing
services has acquired data marketing firm Response
One. Following the acquisition, Response One will
operate as a subsidiary of St Ives and will continue to be
managed by the existing management team from its existing
premises in Bath.
