News roundup–Morrisons buys Kiddicare, John Lewis looks to Europe


Nursery products etailer Kiddicare has been
acquired by supermarket chain Morrisons for £70 million. In
a statement, Morrisons said this was the “first step in
developing Morrisons’ online business”. This will include
using the Kiddicare.com platform to build the supermarket’s
online non-food business, with the first products going online in
2012.
Kiddicare will continue to be run as a separate entity with Scott
and Elaine Weavers-Wright at its helm. Kiddicare’s turnover for
the full fiscal year 2010 was £37.5 million, having grown 75
percent in the last three years.

John Lewis
is gearing up to open its website to 25
European countries, writes the Financial Times. The new website will go live
in June, with plans to launch local-language websites within 18
months.
