News roundup—New Look, Habitat, more

Fashion retailer New Look has named a new
chairman: John Gildersleeve, nonexecutive chairman of
Carphone Warehouse and a
Tesco veteran. The change, effective in January,
comes less than two years after Phil Wrigley was promoted from
chief executive to chairman, notes The Times, and is seen
“as a clear sign” that New Look will file for a
flotation next year.

The Independent
predicts that restructuring specialist Hilco
will be named as the new owner of furniture retailer
Habitat within a matter of days. Parent company
Ikano Group put the money-losing chain up for sale in
October.

For etailers, 7th December will be more than just another manic
Monday, according to IMRG. It expects next Monday to be the
busiest online shopping day of the year, with sales hitting
£350 million.

The Western Mail
gapes open-mouthed (figuratively, of course) at the sheer scale
of Amazon‘s Swansea fulfilment centre.
