News roundup–Ocado, French Connection

Online grocer Ocado has acquired a 2.3-acre site
near Oxford which it will develop into a distribution centre,
creating up to 170 new jobs. Work to upgrade the 43,000 sq ft
warehouse and office space is underway, with site set to open in
November 2011.

Apparel retailer French Connection told
investors today that profits for the first half of the year will
be in line with expectations. The company delivered a growth in
like-for-like sales in its UK stores during the first six months,
and net cash at the end of the period was £30.5 million-a
figure that is ahead of expectations.

Online retailer Zazzle, which sells custom
printed T-shirts, has been ordered by the Advertising Standards
Authority to stop promoting a T-shirt with the slogan
“nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”, made famous
by model Kate Moss. “Campaigners feared could encourage
teenage girls to develop eating disorders,” writes the
Telegraph.
