Sporting goods retailer Sports Direct has
acquired the majority share in branded fashion business
USC and in luxury goods retailer
Cruise for £7 million. Sports Direct bought
the brands from Sir Tom Hunter’s West Coast Capital, which will
continue to hold a 20 percent stake in both companies. Sports
Direct has also retained Sir Tom to provide strategic guidance to
its newly established premium and luxury lifestyle
division.
Twitter users last night may have noticed a change of tone from
the folks at PayPal UK. Allegedly hacked by an
angry customer, the payment service provider’s message stream
published complaints from customers and linked to
PayPalSucks.com, a site dedicated to PayPal horror stories. The
compromised account started tweeting around 8.15pm and was
suspended just after 10pm. This morning the feed was back to
normal, with PayPal’s official Twitter spokesperson apologising
“for the bad language and childish nature of tweets that
came from this account at the time”. The matter, PayPal
says, is “under investigation”.
