Apparel retailer White Stuff has had a strong
year with turnover up 43 percent to £83.7 million
(unaudited) and EBITDA up 38 percent to £18.4 million. In
the year ended 1st May 2010, sales in White Stuff’s home shopping
division more than doubled to £8.9 million.
Shirtmaker Charles Tyrwhitt has vowed to keep
its prices at their current levels despite a surge in the price
of cotton. Rising demand in China, poor harvests in Pakistan as a
result of the floods and a switch by farmers from cotton to
biofuels is being blamed for the limited supply. Charles Tyrwhitt
founder Nick Wheeler also warned of “knock-on effects to
the price of silk, wool and leather”.
Harriet Green, chief executive of electronics distributor
Premier Farnell, has been appointed to the board
of BAE Systems as a nonexecutive director
effective 1st November.
Laurel Powers-Freeling will join the board of
Findel on 1st October as a nonexecutive
director. She was previously a group executive director at
Marks & Spencer Group, chief executive of
Marks & Spencer Financial Services and most
recently UK country manager and chairman of the European
insurance business at American Express Services
Europe.
