Next looks online for growth

Next has reported mixed results for its second quarter. Its full price sales showed some improvement, up by 2.8 per cent on the same quarter last year and online sales had risen by 12.5 per cent largely attributable to international growth as well as sales of third party brands. Store sales were down by 5.9 per cent but had benefited from the hot weather prompting customers to buy from its summer ranges.

Lord Simon Wolfson is lobbying for business rate reforms to help the retail sector by calling for more frequent revaluations. He also went on record (ITV News) as saying that some 50 per cent of Next online orders are collected from its stores which shows that there is a definite future for the high street.
