Nipper lives to see another day


HMV which was acquired by Hilco last year is well on its way to achieving a turnaround as sales from its 125 stores are rising steadily. The business estimates it is now close to taking the top spot for CD and DVD sales from Amazon as it is attracting strong repeat sales from customers, many who are long term HMV stalwarts re-engaged by direct and digital marketing campaigns, who much prefer to choose their music in person, in store. Like for like sales have risen by 13.8 per cent in the past two months, with a 21 per cent increase in sales of CDs and vinyl. HMV has staged a number of live artist events in its stores and is well on its way back to becoming a chain of profitable destination stores for music lovers.
