“OKA House” open for business

Decor retailer/cataloguer Oka opened its 12th showroom, a 14-room
house in Worcestershire, in the last week of August. Completely
decked out in Oka furniture, lighting and home accessories, the
Georgian property has been dubbed Oka House.

At 4,500 sq ft, Oka House is part of the company’s strategy to
acquire larger premises for its stores. It has already
refurbished stores in Fulham and Oxfordshire and increased their
size, with the aim of complementing the “diverse range of
interior designs on offer”. Its largest showroom to date,
in Saffron Walden, opened this past spring and is trading
“significantly ahead of expectations”, according to a
company statement.

Oka hopes the new shop will attract customers from surrounding
areas such as Oxfordshire and Cheltenham as well as visitors
passing through the Cotswolds. At press time, the property was
still without signage, as planning permission was yet to be
agreed on. But Oka was planning for an open day in early October
and is embarking on a direct marketing campaign to spread the
word.
