ONS reports 2.9 per cent retail sales uplift for May

Retail sales showed a welcome marked improvement for the month of May following the very depressed results for April. Expectations were for 1.1 per cent growth, but this was beaten by a 2.9 per cent rise. Online sales rose by 5.9 per cent as consumer confidence returned, with consumers notably spending on clothing, shoes, and furniture.
