Two online pharmacy businesses have merged and become the UK’s leading digital pharmacy business with 1.5 million customers. The merger was announced earlier this month following a £10 million investment from the Business Growth Fund. In May Pharmacy2U had unveiled its new centralised dispensary facility in Leeds which has the capacity to process one million prescription items a month. The combined business offers a home delivered prescription service for NHS patients, online medical consultation services, and an offering of some 6000 OTC health and wellbeing products.
Chemist Direct’s CEO Mark Livingstone is now chief executive of the combined business, with Daniel Lee who founded Pharmacy2U taking the role of chief operating officer. Mark Livingstone commented “We are creating the leading ‘pure-play business in the sector. It is the beginning of a new era of convenience and choice for millions more patients as we open up the full potential of internet pharmacy for the first time.”
