Pippa Wicks exits John Lewis

Pippa Wicks who was recruited to head the John Lewis department store business has left the business with immediate effect.

It is being suggested that something of a culture clash led to Wicks moving on. Having joined the ailing retailer in 2020, it was Wicks who saw through the closure of sixteen unprofitable stores, the introduction of lower cost ranges, and the abandonment of the ‘never knowingly undersold’ commitment to customers.

Ms Wicks commented: “I am proud of the considerable transformational progress the highly talented John Lewis team has made over the past few years, especially given the difficulties caused by the pandemic.”

Retail director Natalie Simcock has assumed Wicks’s role on an interim basis whilst a decision on a replacement is made.
