Poundland has acquired Poundshop.com, a growing online retail business which was founded in 2014 and now has some 400,000 customers. The business will be integrated into the Poundshop operation and will be scaled to support Poundland’s ambitious eCommerce growth plans, benefiting from the transfer of 65 experienced staff.
The acquisition includes Poundshop’s IP, online platform, picking and fulfilment centre, as well as its customer database. The purchase price has not been disclosed.
Poundland will be widening the online offer to include Pep&Co apparel and homewares but for the time being will trade under the Poundshop brand. The integration will be led by Poundland’s retail & transformation director Austin Cooke with support from Poundshop’s chair Steve Smith and CEO Chris Maddox.
