Poundland and Dealz weighed for separate sales

Gordon Brothers is reportedly considering selling Poundland and its Irish sister chain Dealz separately, rather than as a single deal, as it looks to complete a sale before the Christmas trading period.

The owner, which bought both businesses for a nominal £1 in 2025, has appointed restructuring firm Alvarez & Marsal to run the process, with formal bids expected by the end of September. Poundland currently operates around 600 UK stores, down from more than 800 at the time of the original deal, following a significant restructuring of its estate. Its latest accounts showed sales fall from around £1.8bn to £1.6bn in the year to September 2025, alongside a pre-tax loss of £85.2m.

Interest is said to differ between the two businesses. Dealz, which runs around 70 stores in the Republic of Ireland, has drawn interest from established retailers and private investors, while Poundland itself has attracted approaches from retail groups and asset managers, with a management buyout led by existing leadership also understood to be under consideration.

Deal terms and timing remain unconfirmed pending comment from Gordon Brothers or Poundland.
