Primark’s click & collect trial caused its website to crash as shoppers logged on to be among the first to use it.
The company said that it was pleased to see so much interest in the launch and that it was working hard to address the issues to enable customers to access and browse the site.
Primark CEO Paul Marchant said: “We’re big fans of the high street and we believe passionately that a thriving local shopping area benefits everyone in the community. Our approach to online is all about supporting and complementing our stores, which will always be at the heart of our business.
“The trial offers the convenience of browsing and shopping from the comfort of your home, while also providing customers living near one of our smaller stores, like Wallasey, as big a range as on offer in a much larger store, like Liverpool. Everyone, no matter their local store, will get access to lots of exclusive new products.”
Primark generated £7.7bn sales in the year to September 15th 2022. This was up by 43 per cent on the prior year, being one of few clothing retailers, at the time, without an online channel its sales were boosted by stores re-opening after lockdowns.
