Primark, the budget retailer, has announced plans to open its first stores in the USA. It has chosen Boston for its debut and will open a 70,000 sq.ft.store there in 2015. The Associated British Foods (ABF) subsidiary is looking at 8 other locations in the North East region of the USA, along with a distribution to support them. Primark now has more than 270 stores in nine countries including Spain, Portugal, Germany and the Netherlands and has opened over one million square feet of new retail space over the past 12 months. The retailer is also planning further UK stores in locations including Bath, Canterbury, Milton Keynes and York along with a major expansion of its Birmingham outlet.
In the six months to 1st March the retailer recorded sales of £2.3 billion, up by 14 per cent over the same period last year.
