The founder of Crocus, Mark Fane and Peter Clay, have acquired the assets of online garden retailer Primrose from its administrator.
Primrose launched in 2003 and had posted sales of £38.4m for FY 2020/21 from online sales of gardening products which were primarily sourced from China. It had been acquired by Risk Capital Partners via a prepack administration two years ago but had run into difficulties again.
Fane and Clay will operate Primrose through a new company – Cercis Ltd – keeping it separate from Crocus which will become more fully focused on plants, with Primrose specialising in gardening products and accessories.
