QVC moves into new home

QVC has made its first broadcast from its new purpose-built media
and commerce centre in Chiswick. The new build represents a
£33.6 million investment by QVC and sees the TV-shopping
specialist take over 13,000 square metres over five levels,
designed to accommodate the company’s continuing expansion.

Fitted out with state of the art studios to accommodate the 17
hours of live TV broadcast every day, the new-build project is
one of only a handful of significant investments in the
multimedia retail industry in recent years. QVC has entirely
rebuilt its network infrastructure to accommodate its bespoke
systems, including those which provide real-time sales
information.

Dermot Boyd, chief executive at QVC UK, comments, “We had
outgrown our previous home in Battersea, where we had been since
our first broadcast in October 1993, when QVC was the only live
shopping channel in the UK.” He went on to explain that the
new building represent a blank canvas, “vastly improving
the flow of products from our London warehouse to the
studios”.

The QVC team–from technology, broadcasting and facilities
departments–has put more than 36,000 hours into the new building
to bring the project to fruition, and has been supported by
numerous external contractors.
