Research points to widespread re-platforming in 2014

Recent research from Demandware in the UK discovered that
some 88 per cent of retailers feel that their existing eCommerce platform does
not support their 2014 plans – and that a third may be forced to re-platform in
2014 to deliver on their plans. The findings confirm that many retailers are
still using eCommerce platform technology that simply wasn’t designed for the
demands of an omnichannel world. According to the research 38 per cent have
immediate plans to expand online operations into new international markets, 35
per cent are aiming to introduce m-commerce sites and 31 per cent want to
connect their channels. All of which bodes well for specialist suppliers, many
of which have extended their capabilities by making strategic acquisitions.
