Response to Royal Mail launch of Sunday delivery services – comment from CEO of RichRelevance

In light of the news today that Royal Mail will launch Sunday
services David Selinger, CEO of RichRelevance, comments on how
smaller, independent retailers can capitalise on this development and take on
the ecommerce giants, such as Amazon. From this weekend, Royal Mail will open around 100 of its
delivery offices across the UK between 12:00 and 16:00 BST, and deliveries will
be made to addresses within the M25 motorway. The company says that the new
arrangements will make it easier for online shoppers not at home during the day
to get their parcels.

David Selinger, CEO of RichRelevance, says:

“For independent retailers to win the war against ecommerce giants like
Amazon, they need to shift their approach from just ‘multichannel’ to truly
‘omnichannel’. Their success lies in the ability to create a seamless shopping
experience between online, mobile and physical stores. Until now, many
retailers have struggled to offer home deliveries to complete the last leg of
the shopping journey. But with Royal Mail’s Sunday deliveries, this opens up a
fair battleground for independent retailers to compete with Amazon. Shoppers
can now shop anytime, anywhere, and expect a delivery to their homes at a time
that suits.”

Evan Puzey, Chief Marketing Officer at Kewill, the multimodal
transportation company added:

Royal Mail’s
decision to launch a Sunday delivery service is a bold move that highlights the
importance of online retailers offering a range of delivery options. Cost is
not everything – choice matters a great deal to consumers, who often don’t mind
paying a small fee if it saves them time and the hassle of queuing at a busy
collection depot. Consumers today aren’t prepared to hang around for missed or
delayed deliveries. As we approach peak season, retailers must make home
deliveries more convenient for online shoppers and independent retailers must
take advantage of this and other new services, to compete with established
online sellers.”
