Royal Mail doubles compensation for tracked products

Already recognised as the most trusted delivery provider for online shoppers, (Royal Mail, Delivery Matters, April 2015) Royal Mail has made a series of enhancements to its Tracked products to give customers more flexibility. It is increasing the compensation it offers customers using its Tracked products from £50 to £100*.

The new compensation is likely to appeal to online retailers and SMEs as it exceeds the £78 value of the average online shopping basket in 2015 (IMRG: e-Retail Sales index January 2016).

The increased compensation which has been designed to provide online retailers with sufficient cover from a trusted carrier at an affordable price, applies to customers using Royal Mail Tracked24, Royal Mail Tracked48 , Royal Mail Tracked Returns24 and Royal Mail Tracked Return48**. Customers sending items of greater value can continue to use Royal Mail’s Special Delivery Guaranteed services which offer compensation of up to £500 as standard, and up to £2,500 with additional cover.

Royal Mail recently standardised the weight limit on its Tracked products, increasing the maximum weight to 20kg across the suite. To bring greater flexibility to online retailers and their customers, Royal Mail has also enhanced its Royal Mail Tracked48 product, offering acceptance into its network up until midnight (23:59), all-year-round at Mail Centres and Regional Distribution Centres across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

With more consumers shopping online, the later acceptance times of up to midnight (23:59), will enable businesses around the UK ensure that customers receive their online orders more quickly.

Royal Mail’s Tracked services provide end-to-end tracking for businesses posting parcels to addresses in the UK and customers using a business return service.

Nick Landon, Managing Director Royal Mail Parcels, said: “Our Tracked products are very popular with business customers who want the flexibility to choose a 24 or 48 hour delivery service, together with a collection service and later acceptance times that allow them to meet customer expectations. So we are delighted to be increasing the compensation we offer on our suite of Tracked products. We believe this will provide even greater confidence in the products and in our ability to respond to our customers.”
