Royal Mail’s group revenues for the nine month period to 28 December 2014 rose by 1 per cent thanks for the most part to its parcel business improving. A strong Christmas for parcels helped volumes to increase by 3 per cent whereas latter volumes dropped by 3 per cent. Moya Greene, CEO, has been quoted as saying that in 2015 larger retailers will realise that quality (of delivery service) counts with many having been adversely impacted by service problems at Yodel and by the demise of City Link. Royal Mail delivered 120 million parcels in December which is more than most parcel carriers deliver across a whole year. Greene also intimated that more delivery forms could collapse in 2015 as there was too much capacity in the market which has put pressure on prices.
