Royal Mail strike finally over

Royal Mail strike finally over

The majority of CWU members working for Royal Mail have voted to accept the package offered by Royal Mail in April. Under the terms of the agreement, staff will receive a ten per cent pay increase over three years along with a one-off payment of £500.

The deal includes later starting times for deliveries which will enable Royal Mail to meet greater demand for next-day parcel services, improve the overall quality of service, and create capacity for growth. Regular Sunday working will enable Royal Mail to operate seven days a week and seasonal working pattern changes were also confirmed as accepted.

Last year’s strikes which severely impacted Royal Mail’s business customers lost the carrier significant bulk mail and parcel delivery volumes with the actions costing some £200m.

Despite the end to the actions, there remains considerable disquiet amongst postal delivery personnel who are cynical of the changes being introduced to the consolidation of rounds and the added pressures of servicing larger areas.
