Sainsbury’s delivered a strong fourth quarter with sales up
6.3 per cent, excluding fuel. In a statement, chief executive Justin King said
the supermarket’s online groceries arm increased sales by nearly 20 per cent
year-on-year. But the real star performance came from clothing and general
merchandise, which is growing at nearly three times the rate of food. In
February, Sainsbury’s reached the milestone of £1 billion annual sales from
general merchandise.
