Jon Goddard-Watts passed away on 23rd February. The former managing director of Screwfix had started the business in 1981 via the acquisition of a small mail order business called the Woodscrew Supply Company. Having then acquired two further businesses, Jon and his wife Jenny combined the three together in 1993 and expanded as Screwfix Direct. Jon agreed the sale of Screwfix for £60 million in 1999.
John Mewett, CEO of Screwfix which has remained headquartered in Yeovil said: “As one of the founders of Screwfix, Jon helped to lay the foundations of what Screwfix is today. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”
