Shop Direct has confirmed the appointment of Andy Burton to its executive board as chief technology officer. Joining in May 2019 and reporting directly to CEO Henry Birch, Burton was most recently CTO at the Stars Group which merged with Sky Betting & Gaming in 2018.
In his new role, Burton will lead Shop Direct’s 275-strong technology team as it continues to transform its technology and platforms.
The online retailer has also promoted its former head of IT architecture and engineering Karl Wintrell to the position of technology director for data science and strategy and confirmed that its interim CTO JM Domaingue will take up the role of technology director, leading technology operations including data security.

Shop Direct has annual sales of £1.96 billion and receives an average of more than 1.4 million website visits every day, with 74 per cent of online sales completed on mobile devices. Its 4 million customers order 49 million products between them every year.
