Lanchester Group which has owned Spicers of Hythe, a long-established corporate hampers business, since 2016 has seen the gifting business deliver a significant increase in its revenue contribution to the group (£13m) which posted overall revenues of £110.5m for the year to June 30th, 2021. It is now targeting annual revenues of £20m from the Spicers of Hythe operation which runs from Gateshead.

Ruth Peyton, director of gifts, Lanchester Group said: “Last year we saw a surge in online hamper sales due to the pandemic, as companies had to cancel Christmas parties and send a gift to clients and staff remotely. This year, although life is slowly returning to normal, with Covid restrictions still a possibility over the winter, many companies are deciding to postpone big staff parties again and we are already seeing hampers under the taxable benefit threshold of £50 soar as employee gifts.

Lanchester Group operates Lanchester Wines, Greencroft Bottling, The Wine Fusion, Bon Bon’s Wholesale, Lanchester Properties and Lanchester Energy in addition to Spicers of Hythe.

Group managing director  Tony Cleary commented: “While this has been a record year for the group, we’re always looking to the future. While we understandably paused investment last financial year, we have already begun a number of exciting projects in the first half of this current financial year which will come to fruition over the next 12-18 months.”
