Primark enjoyed very strong trading over the festive season which resulted in a 15 per cent rise in its retail sales for the 16 weeks to 7th January. The business benefited from awareness of its low pricing offer as consumers sought to make the money go further and had also been trialling click & collect services at selected stores.
The business said that its outlook for the full year was unchanged and that it continued to encounter cost pressures. “To date, Primark trading has been good in all our markets and was ahead of expectation. Early trading in this new calendar year has been encouraging but macro-economic headwinds remain and may weigh on consumer spending.”
