Tesco to take on 16000 for online shopping drive

Tesco has announced plans to create 16,000 new permanent jobs to help support growth in demand for its grocery home shopping service. The roles include 10,000 order pickers and 3,000 delivery drivers. Lockdown drove growth in online customer numbers at Tesco from 600,000 to approaching 1.5 million and whilst its teams pulled together to fulfil demand, with the help of 47,000 temporary staff, the permanent new roles will ensure that it can continue to grow. Most of the roles will be offered to remaining temporary staff who joined during the supermarket’s pandemic peak, with the remaining vacancies offered to new recruits.
