TP Toys, a Worcestershire-based manufacturer/marketer of
trampolines and other outdoor toys, acquired Muddy Puddles, a
cataloguer of outerwear for children.
Muddy Puddles was founded in 1994 by Susie Cullen and was very
much a family business. (For her first pattern, Cullen lay her
then-two-year-old son on the floor and drew around him.)
“Having grown the baby to the best of our abilities,”
Cullen says, “we are now ready to pass it on to a larger
group that we hope will have all the right criteria to push it
all the way.”
Chris Martyn-Smith, managing director of TP Toys, was
tight-lipped about his strategy for the acquired business, though
he did say that he plans to maintain Muddy Puddles’ manufacturing
agreements with its suppliers for some of its product range.
Martyn-Smith also intends to keep mailing a catalogue for Muddy
Puddles, “although the format may be reviewed over
time”.
Muddy Puddles will continue operating from its base in
Kingsbridge, Devon, until spring, says Martyn-Smith, “at
which point the business will be consolidated and brought wholly
under the TP brand. There will be relocation options for some
staff at that point.”
