Waitrose is working with a US business to trail home scanning. Hiku is a home scanning solution that will enable Waitrose customers to populate their electronic Waitrose.com shopping basket by either scanning a product barcode or speaking a product name into the Hiku device, which has voice to text recognition capability. Waitrose team members are currently trialling use of the device along with customer focus groups with an extensive in-home trial planned for early in 2015.
