Wool Overs, the direct retailer of knitwear has been
acquired by private equity firm Langholm Capital. The retail business, which
sells primarily online, has sales of c£25 million. It was founded in 1989 by
Mark and Clare Shenton and launched by selling direct to the public from small
stands at country shows. With an offering of some 150 different styles of
jumpers, sweaters and cardigans, it now has a strong international customer
base, trades primarily online, and has
recorded growth of 25 per cent in each of the past two years. This growth has
seen it recognised by The Sunday Times in its Fast Track 100 Ones to Watch
feature.
Langholm Capital, which also has investments in Tyrrells
Crisps and Dorset Cereals, plans to support the Wool Overs management team in
its plans to achieve further profitable growth. Mark Shenton who retains a
significant stake said “This is a very exciting opportunity for Wool Overs and
a new chapter in its history. Langholm Capital has a track record of building
brands and growing businesses and I look forward to a fruitful partnership and
realising the Wool Overs’ full potential.”
